What I’m Currently Saving For: Old Friends Midi Dress from Free People

Anthropologie has just gotten too pricey and too boring for me in general, so I’m slowly making the switch to FP.

I’m also eyeballing this Urban Outfitters Anna Sui top … it would look so cute with my Realisation Par Wild Things skirt.

I am, however, trying to purchase the majority of my clothing at Target and TJ Maxx to save on shipping and to try on the clothes before buying – no expensive returns! These are just a few “fun” items that have caught my eye on the Internet.

What I Last Purchased: Free People Silent D Laguna Mules

Let me start off by saying that I ADORE Silent D shoes – I own two pairs, and they’re the only heels I’ve ever been able to wear comfortably, plus they’re super cute.

These mules are currently ON SALE (and I got them an extra 30% off sale price), on trend, and I look forward to their arrival.

I have a good feeling about those shoes, as I ordered the Anthropologie High Heeled version – the Silent D Noveltee Heels – earlier in the summer, but I had to return them because the heel was about an inch too high for me. They were comfortable but simply not practical for my lifestyle.

What I’m Eating Today:

A red plum with 2/3 C Greek yogurt and a squirt of honey.

When I was hungry again, I was craving veggies, so I sauteed up a big ol’ handful of kale, some carrots, a big piece of broccoli, about 6 Brussels sprouts, and a small piece of butternut squash, and added a bit of Sesame dressing and minced garlic.

Mmm-uhmm! If eating a big pile of veggies is wrong, I don’t want to be right! SO GOOD! Ein Apfel for snack – an envy apple with two teaspoons of PB and cinnamon.

Around 6, I was getting snacky but wasn’t quuuuuite ready for dinner yet, so I made a little tasting plate of deer sausage, carrots, broccoli, cucumber, and about two tablespoons of light ranch dressing.

Aaaand dinner was what I cooked today – spaghetti on a bed of spinach.

What I’m Cooking Today: Spaghetti


  • 1.5 lb ground chuck
  • Parsley, basil, garlic, and oregano to season the meat
  • 2 24 oz. cans of spaghetti sauce of your choice (I used Classico)
  • 1 packet of McCormick Zesty Spaghetti seasoning
  • 8 oz. chopped mushrooms
  • 1 lb of Barilla Thick Spaghetti noodles
  • 4 oz Philadelphia low fat cream cheese
  • 1 C ricotta cheese
  • 2 C mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 C Parmesan cheese


Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brown the meat in a large skillet and eyeball seasonings – basil, parsley, oregano, and minced garlic. Add the mushrooms while the beef is about halfway done browning and also add the Zesty taco seasoning. After the meat is browned, add 2 cans of spaghetti sauce and let simmer on medium.

While the meat simmers away, it’s time to boil some noodles! Break the dry noodles in half and add them to boiling water with salt … cook, cook, cook until al dente.

Once the noodles are done, drain them and place them at the bottom of a casserole dish (or two … I made two casseroles out of this!).

Plop the ricotta and cream cheese on the top of the spaghetti – it looks like a lot, but it’s not as much as it seems in this picture! Good lord, that looks like a TON!Then add the meat sauce to the top! Top the casserole(s) with 2 C of mozzarella cheese and 1/2 C of Parmesan. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.

Voila! I made two casseroles, FYI – I’m just showing pictures of one. ๐Ÿ˜€

Welcome to Martaus Modus

Hello and welcome! My name is Mandy Martaus, and I’m an enthusiastic amateur with a camera, a foodie, a fashionista on a budget, and Mother of Kitty Cats … this blog is slowly going to transition from The Mood Eater, a blog focused on ED recovery, to a lifestyle blog where my friends and family can keep up with me.(Yes, I realize that I look a little insane and wrinkly here – that’s what I get for not doing much makeup at the ranch, but hey, I look enthusiastic, and that’s how I feel about starting this blog.)

My dear husband Luke and I live in a little apartment here in the Texas Panhandle while he finishes up school (he’s a Biology major with plans to become a Physician’s Assistant). Luke is an avid gun collector and talented shooter – we often practice together at the family ranch in Canadian, TX.

Luke and I are also *really* into fitness, particularly weightlifting, and I love cooking healthy meals for us. ๐Ÿ™‚

We have three babies aka kitties named Persephone, Calliope, and Caprica, and we also own a cinnamon calico ball python named Drogo.

What I’m Cooking Tonight: Mandy’s Version of Cheesy One Skillet Taco Pasta


  • 1 lb ground beef ( I used ground chuck)
  • about 2 C broccoli florets
  • about 1 C of fresh Hatch chilies (or 2 cans of chilies if you don’t have access to fresh Hatch ones)
  • 6 C fresh spinach
  • 16 oz rigatoni pasta
  • 6 C water
  • 1 packet of Cheesy Taco Seasoning
  • 3 C jarred salsa
  • about 3 C shredded cheese of your choice – I used a fiesta blend


  • In a large skillet, cook the beef, broccoli, and spinach until combined and tender, and the beef is done.
  • Add pasta, water, salsa, and taco seasoning to the mix and stir.
  • Bring to a boil … cover and reduce heat to a simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the pasta is tender.
  • Time to add the cheese! Stir to melt.
  • Add your favorite toppings such as avocado, sour cream, tomatoes, tortilla chips, salsa, etc.
  • Enjoy! ๐Ÿ™‚ It serves 6-8.

That’s what I’ve got for tonight, but I hope to post on a daily basis, or at least every couple of days.ย  ๐Ÿ˜€
